Shook Ying died in 1968, leaving behind lots of expensive jewellery, cash and stock certificates in her safety deposit box at the bank. According to her will, they were to be divided among her 3 sons, causing uproar from her 8 daughters. Just before she passed, she reassured Tai Ching that his new business would be safe since he would be a millionaire soon. Tai Ching and his brother-in-law were the 2 executors that had the authority to open the box after her death. They eventually managed to open the box after 3 months of bureaucracy and all they found were 2 bundles of one-dollar bills and a simple jade bracelet. Her husband, Bunnan, the only other person authorised to open the box must have opened it soon after her death, with his second wife taking everything else. Tai Ching is still bitter about the missing watch that was given to him by his mother.Days following her death, Bunnan's second wife had their marriage officially registered, entitling her to his wealth.
